The Path
Every child's bilingual journey at Amistad is continuous — one path from 12 months through 8th grade, not a series of separate programs. This is where your family's path begins.
Everything on The Path is built on three pillars: Language, Love, and Learning. They show up differently at each age — from a toddler's first Spanish songs in Orugas to a middle schooler writing and presenting in two languages — but they never change. They are the thread that connects every stage of the journey. Open each pillar below to read it in full.
Bilingualism isn't just a skill — it's a way of connecting. Along The Path, language grows with every child, from first sounds to full biliteracy.
Early Learning: language through play
In our Early Learning classrooms, children are immersed in Spanish through play, song, conversation, and daily routine. Language is not taught as a subject — it is lived, in greetings, snack time, story time, and outdoor play, so toddlers and preschoolers absorb vocabulary and rhythm naturally, well before they can name what they're learning.
Bright Minds: building biliteracy
In Bright Minds, spoken Spanish becomes written Spanish, and English is layered in with intention. Children learn to read and write in both languages, moving from a Spanish-heavy start toward a balanced 50/50 model by upper elementary. Language becomes a tool for math, science, and social studies — not just conversation.
Middle School: language as identity
By middle school, students use both languages to research, write, present, and advocate for themselves. Many are on track for the Washington State Seal of Biliteracy — a credential that reflects years of sustained growth, not a single test. Language has become part of who they are, not just something they study.
Across every stage, our dual-language approach helps students grow confident, curious, and culturally aware — carrying two languages with them wherever they go next.
