Safety and wellbeing at Amistad
Because Amistad is a small school, our staff knows every child by name — and that closeness is part of how we keep our campus safe. We take the wellbeing of every student seriously, from our youngest Orugas to our Bridge Years graduates.
Arrival, dismissal, and visitors
Exterior doors stay locked during the school day. Every visitor checks in at the front desk, signs in, and wears a visitor badge while on campus. Students are released only to the adults listed on their authorized pick-up list, and changes are confirmed with the family in advance.
Emergency preparedness
Staff practice fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills with students on a regular schedule throughout the year, using age-appropriate language so our youngest learners feel secure rather than scared. Emergency supplies are kept on site, and families are notified by email and text if a real event affects the school day.
Health and daily wellbeing
We follow King County Public Health guidance for illness, medication, and allergy management. Teachers are trained in first aid and CPR, all staff are background-checked and are mandated reporters, and our social-emotional curriculum gives students language for asking an adult for help.
