Hora de Amistad: How We Begin
Every Monday, Seattle Amistad School begins the same way: together.
Hora de Amistad is our weekly all-school assembly that fosters connection and shared values, helping students, educators, and families start the week with purpose.
What makes it especially powerful is that students lead it, which helps students and families feel proud and connected to their roles in the community.
Classrooms take turns bringing each week's theme to life through performance, storytelling, music, and creative expression. Families show up nearly every week to celebrate their children's work and feel valued as part of the school community.
This commitment to the community extends beyond Monday mornings.
We recently launched Coffee & Conversations, an intimate parents and administrators gathering designed for open dialogue, real-time updates, and to make families feel welcomed, heard, and connected to school life.
We're also expanding our focus on student well-being, particularly in the upper grades. This includes introducing mindfulness practices, such as guided morning meditation, to help students build awareness, focus, and emotional regulation. We're exploring ways to bring families into this practice as well, through shared experiences and dedicated parent sessions.
These offerings will continue to take shape over the summer and into the 2026–2027 school year.
Hora de Amistad reflects what we believe education should be. Alongside our commitment to bilingual and biliterate excellence, we are equally devoted to developing socially aware, confident, and expressive individuals. By creating space for dialogue, creativity, and shared understanding, we ensure students aren't only learning language—they're learning how to move through the world with intention and care.
This is how we begin our week. This is how we stay rooted.
