Little Learners

12–18 Months · Orugas

Caterpillars — Orugas in Spanish — is where our youngest students begin their bilingual journey, surrounded by Spanish from their very first days at Amistad.

In Orugas, the day moves at the gentle, predictable pace that babies and young toddlers need. Teachers greet, narrate, and sing in Spanish throughout feeding, diapering, tummy time, and rest, so children hear the language woven into the most familiar moments of their day.

Full immersion at this age doesn't mean formal instruction — it means Spanish is simply the language of comfort, care, and connection. Our teachers are native Spanish speakers who build warm, consistent relationships with each child, so little ones feel safe enough to babble, explore, and begin to respond.

Families can expect close daily communication about sleep, feeding, and milestones, and the reassurance that comes from knowing their child is forming their earliest words — in two languages — inside a caring, familiar routine.
