Puerto Rico 2026
Bilingual. Bicultural.
Learning Beyond the Classroom.
At Seattle Amistad School, we believe bilingual and bicultural education extends far beyond the walls of the classroom. Each year, our middle school students participate in an immersive class trip to a Spanish-speaking country—a transformational experience that brings their learning to life.
In Spring 2026, our students will travel to Puerto Rico for a week of cultural exploration, language practice, and hands-on learning rooted in history, identity, and global citizenship.
What Students Will Experience
-

History in Motion
Students will explore Old San Juan, walk through historic forts, and uncover the origins and complexities of Puerto Rico’s story. They’ll engage with local traditions, music, and art that deepen their bicultural understanding while learning about the Taíno people whose legacy continues to shape the island’s culture and heritage.
-

Environment & Exploration
Students will experience Puerto Rico’s rich natural environments firsthand, including the vibrant salt flats of Cabo Rojo and other ecological sites that highlight the island’s unique biodiversity and environmental systems.
-

Language in Action
Throughout the trip, students will apply Spanish in real-world settings, practicing the language through daily interactions and building confidence as bilingual global citizens.
How You Can Support
This experience is more than travel—it is an extension of our mission, strengthening bilingual communication, building independence, confidence, and leadership, helping students see themselves reflected in the broader world, and creating lifelong memories while ensuring equitable access to transformative education. We are committed to making this trip accessible to every student, regardless of financial circumstances. To support this goal, we are raising funds to ensure cost is never a barrier to participation. Every contribution—whether $25 or $250—helps bring this experience to life for our students by covering travel and lodging, educational excursions, meals and cultural activities, and overall program accessibility for all families.
