We are pleased to announce that Amistad Middle School will be opening with our first 6th grade class in September 2018. Please see our Admissions page for more information on admission deadlines.
Amistad Middle School will be a half-day program, offering Language Arts, Social Studies, and Art, all in Spanish. Students will be cross-enrolled with Seattle Public Schools, and we will coordinate with Meany Middle School to provide the other half of the day (math and science). This format allows us to continue to support students’ bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy, and stays true to our format of 50% English/50% Spanish at 5th grade and beyond.
Amistad Middle School will reflect the same values, hopes, and dreams as our elementary program, and will be similar in terms of content, format, and structure.
Amistad will provide a Middle School liaison, who will coordinate with SPS, advocate for students’ needs both at Amistad and SPS, and assist families in navigating the complex middle school world.
Admission to Amistad Middle School is open to all students who have attended an elementary immersion program, or who are transferring from a formal Spanish-speaking educational setting in another country. Non-Amistad students who wish to enroll will be required to take an entrance exam, regardless of their elementary placement.
For more information, join us for an Information Session Thursday, December 7, from 6-7pm at Amistad. Or, send us a note through our Contact Us page and note that you are interested in Amistad Middle School.
